Although the economy remains in recession, the government is continuing to maintain its spending on education and HWA have benefitted from this with a number of school projects across the region.

school signWe have recently completed structural designs for a hall extension at Harworth Church of England School in Doncaster, classroom extensions at Gringley-on-the-Hill in North Notts and a whole school extension at Farnsfield St Michaels.

We have also provided specialist structural advice on the refurbishment of the Unity Learning Centre in Nottingham. The majority of the building was an original Vic Hallam 'Derwent' design - a prefabricated system used extensively to provide additional classroom space during the 1960's. Whilst our engineers weren't quite qualified when these early modular schools were built we are nevertheless very experienced in their structural details and the issues associated with them as they reach the end of their useful lives. As a result we were able to efficiently assess the existing structure and advise on the removal of numerous internal walls and timber columns.
