Whitwell roof fireIn our last report on this project we described the extensive preparatory work to source materials and liaise with conservation officers to enable the repair works to go ahead. Having reached this stage, the property was sold prior to works commencing on site and is now in the possession of a new owner, who is currently in the process of undertaking the extensive refurbishment works.

Due to our extensive involvement & knowledge with the project, we are pleased to announce that we have been appointed to continue to provide our professional services to the new owner.

The main oak timber roof structure has now been completed following the production of detailed roof structure drawings in line with discussions with the local authority conservation officers.

The main focus for the project now is to establish a source for the rare magnesian limestone roof slates which are a key component for the property. A site visit to the local limestone quarry for trial splitting is currently in the process of being arranged and hopefully this will enable only 1 of 4 properties in Derbyshire with Magnisian Limestone roofing to be restored to its former glory.
